Scripture of the Week by JoBeth Kested

Scripture for the week of March 27, 2016

He (Jesus) asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 16:13-17 NKJV

Throughout the last 2000 years the question is still being asked, “Who is Jesus?”. Many say that He was a good man or spiritual teacher. Others say He was a prophet. In these Bible verses, Jesus commends Simon Peter for stating the truth that He is the Messiah and acknowledges that He is in fact the Son of God. Jesus also declares in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” We don’t get the option to believe that Jesus is just a good man, a teacher, or a prophet. We must face the fact that He is either a liar, a lunatic or the Lord. Jesus is still asking each of us the question, “Who do you say that I am?” This Easter morning, do you know Him as the promised Messiah and the risen Lord resurrected from the grave? To all who believe, He is still revealing The Way, The Truth, and The Life. He Is Risen, He Is Risen Indeed!
